December Schedule...

We are currently in Ann Arbor, Michigan for the Christmas season. At the beginning of December we had a meeting in Lima, Ohio, where my brother Jim is music pastor. We enjoyed staying with him and Mrs. Williams. Mrs. Williams is familiar with the ministry in Cameroon as she stays in contact with Ellen Doyle, a missionary nurse in Cameroon who often ministers in the bush country through the Needham's aviation ministry. Thank you for the lodging for almost a week!
We stayed with Abby's parents for a week and are now in a prophets chamber in town. We have enjoyed meeting new pastors and getting the word out about the open doors in Cameroon. We attended the Christmas Contata at Ann Arbor Baptist Church last night. The music was a blessing, and Pastor Hirth preached a clear gospel message.
Have a merry Christmas...we'll post more pictures later.

Glastar Sportsman in Progress...

We were able to spend a week in Oshkosh at the end of November and see the new Glastar Sportsman under construction. This is Tom Needham's new airplane, which Lord willing will soon be in service in Cameroon. It is the next size bigger than the Glastar taildragger that he is currently using. You may remember the Glastar taildragger is the plane we desire to purchase from Bro. Tom to use in Cameroon as we work with his family to preach the gospel. You can contribute to our ministry by helping us purchase the Glastar, the funds of which will go to help the Needhams finish building the Sportsman. Thank you all for your prayers for the aviation ministry...it truly enables the word of the Lord to have free course, to move swiftly in the bush country of Cameroon.

Thanksgiving 2006

"O Give thanks unto the Lord;for he is good:because his mercy endureth for ever." I am very thankful for the family in which I was born. Abby, Elena, and I were able to spend Thanksgiving with my family this year. Because of Bible College and Seminary it was the first time I made it home for Thanksgiving in 7 years! The whole family was there as you can see as well as Jim's new fiancee, Jill Zajac from Chicago. They went to school together in college, and we are thankful for the future addition she will make to our family. Also, you may notice the addition of two new babies to the family this year, Elena Sanderlin and Audella Wredberg. Also, there is the addition of several goats...the family just keeps on growing!! We will miss them all when we go to Africa and are thankful for any time we can get together. Thanks, Mom and Dad for the spiritual heritage you have passed down to us! May we all rejoice in God's blessing of family this year!

First Southern Tour Complete

We are back in the Midwest after spending the month of October and most of November down south. We had deputation meetings in North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. The pictures are of us in climate and culture training as we prepare for Africa. We realized once again how different the South is from the Midwest. We really enjoyed our time there, and we are so thankful for all the friends we were able to see again. We look forward to going south again!

IFR: Head in the clouds now legal!

Thank you to all who prayed for us in the month of October. I passed my written exam with a 97% and the checkride (oral and flight test) on the second try on Friday November 3, 2006. I am thankful for this milestone that has been completed. Elena slept through the night (usually from 10pm to 7am) every night in October, so that made it easier on Abby during the day. We really enjoyed our time with the Hunts and the dedication they had to see us through in such a short time. In celebration of the victory they cooked a steak dinner for us, and we had a great evening with them and Pastor Wingard and his wife from Calvary Baptist in New Bern. We left for Florida a few hours after the checkride...nothing like savoring the moment :)

First Flight!

It was only a matter of time before Elena made it to the sky. I'm thankful that I was able to be her first pilot! Abby sat in the back and kept an eye on Elena, but Elena slept soundly the whole way from New Bern to the Outer Banks. On the way I practiced more instrument flying with Jack Hunt in preparation for the check ride coming up. We landed at First Flight airport in Kitty Hawk and enjoyed looking at the Wright brothers memorial. Then we flew to a nearby airport on Roanoke Island where we found a Subway nearby for lunch.
Aviation has come a long way in over a hundred years, and we look forward to using this tool to take the gospel to people in Cameroon who need to be saved. There are villages in hard to reach places in Cameroon asking for preachers and someone to start churches. Please pray that we finish the aviation training we need and that our family will be able to get to the mission field soon. Elena had her first flight today, and we pray that we will be able to take our first flight in Cameroon soon. Please continue to pray for funds for the plane we desire to buy in Cameroon.

Time's fun when you're flyin'

Isn't that supposed to be "Time flies when you're having fun"? Well both have been true this month at Canaan Airbase in New Bern. Actually due to high winds and turbulence yesterday and my waking up sick this morning Elena and Abby haven't been flying yet. These picture are when bro. Hunt and I flew home to Canaan Airbase for lunch before doing some more instrument flying practice. We all hope to take a trip to First Flight Airport where the Wright Brothers memorial is located.
Please pray that I would do well on the written exam on Friday or Saturday this week (October 27 or 28). Also, please pray that I would pass the Instrument checkride (oral and flight test) early next week.

Elena on her purple throne!

My friend, LeighAnne, gave me this chair for Elena before she was born. The first time Sam and I put her in it, we just laughed and laughed. She looked so cute! She turns her head and follows me as I walk around the room and talk to her. When she gets tired, she begins to resemble a bobble-head as she tries to hold her head upright. I don't leave her in it too long usually, but she seems to like it. It was created by some orthopedic doctors, and is safe for a baby that can't sit up yet on their own. She is developing some stomach muscles too, as often I watch her try to sit from a reclining position. She hasn't even tried to roll over yet though.

Deputation

Just wanted to update all our family and friends on our deputation progress. As of now, we still just have four churches supporting us as well as several individuals. We are praying for fifteen to take us on for support before our survey trip in the spring. We appreciate each of you who has given so sacrificially. The Lord has blessed us and met our every need! Thank you so much for your prayers!

Despite Sam's busy schedule, we have been presenting in as many churches as possible. This past weekend, Sam presented the ministry and preached at a small church in Benson, and then on Sunday night we visited a very large church in Raleigh that is praying about taking us on for support soon. Wednesday night Sam preached at Calvary Baptist in New Bern where we are staying. We have greatly enjoyed fellowshipping with many like-minded brothers and sisters in Christ! We also trust the Lord is using us to challenge and encourage them in the area of missions. Please pray with us that the Lord will open up many more opportunities to present our ministry to Cameroon. Thanks so much!

Sam and Elena at the hangar

Despite all the studying, we took time for some R&R and some yummy (that's for you, mom :) grilled hamburgers at the hangar. Flight instructor, Jack Hunt, did an excellent job grilling for all of us! Elena enjoyed exploring the plane with her daddy.

Elena sleeping

Basically, the only time she sucks her thumb is at naptime. I think it's adorable! She's been sleeping through the night pretty consistently since she was 2 and 1/2 months old. . .thanks to babywise and plenty of prayers :)

Sam learning on the flight simulator

I decided to add a few pictures to the blog since Sam is busy studying much of the time. He has been working diligently on his instrument rating since we arrived last week. I'm so proud of him! I think he feels overloaded at times since it is so much to digest at once. Please remember him in your prayers. . .thanks.

Elena bath time

Elena enjoys her bathtime! I get tons of smiles and splashes. Here she is "lounging" in her bath robe and slippers after her bath.

Trailer and Training

We have spent over a week in New Bern, North Carolina and love our surroundings! For the month of October we will be based here on the property of Mission Aeroservices with Jack and Jonnie Hunt. Our trailer is located about 150 feet away from the 1,800 foot runway. The Lord opened the door for me to train with bro. Hunt for my instruement rating. Jack Hunt is a missionary pilot here in the states who trains missionary pilots going to foreign fields. They have been such a blessing to us in this last week (please see the new link for more info on them). Abby has been busy with Elena and catching up on other things while I am down the lane studying and flying. I have preached four times in three churches so far, and we praise the Lord for the fellowship and opportunities to present our ministry to Cameroon, Africa.

Ann Arbor or Bust!

The collage speaks for itself! Elena was introduced to the Burtt family and the Ann Arbor Baptist Church family. We had a great time with everyone!! Looking forward to Christmas with you all!

Meeting in Columbus, Ohio

After presenting our ministry in Portsmouth, we headed north to Columbus for a Wednesday meeting. This meeting was significant in a few ways. This is the church where Uncle Ben and Aunt Kay Gillilan are located. This is my dad's oldest sister. Uncle Ben is the Pastor, and we enjoyed getting to know the people at New Beginnings Baptist Church. Also, this was the first church to take us on for support, so we enjoyed finally meeting them all and thanking them in person. Thank you!

Sam returns to birthplace...Portsmouth, Ohio

The Oshkosh Sanderlin family have been part of the missions conference at my Grandad Sanderlin's home church, Temple Baptist in Portsmouth, Ohio. We have enjoyed the time with Pastor Gowdy and those who knew Granny and Grandad Sanderlin as well as my dad. We gave an extended testimony in Sunday School, and tonight we presented our future ministry in Cameroon. Elena and Abby have enjoyed seeing Portsmouth for the first time and hearing about Grandad's influence in Temple Baptist and Portsmouth.

Lima "Dean"

We enjoyed our overnight stay with Jim in Lima, Ohio last Friday. He is the new music pastor at Calvary Bible Church and teaches music in Lima Christian Academy. You're doing great, Jim! Here are some pics of Jim and Elena.

Elena meets Audella

Elena is no longer the newest baby in the Sanderlin family. We met Audella Kate Wredburg on Friday as we passed through Sun Prairie, Wisconsin on our way to Ohio. Here is a good girl cousin shot with Grammie Sanderlin. Mom and Dad (Jessica and Andy) are doing well!
See you guys later.

Back from the Bahamas

The trip to the Bahamas is now over, and I've never been so glad to see Wisconsin autumn weather! What a trip! We were able to help missionaries Dave and Sharon Spangler with some projects around their house as well as help in some of their ministry to the children on Current Island. Praise the Lord for safety in the flight. Terry Rushing is a fantastic pilot, and I was glad to be learning more as his co-pilot. We can now pray better for the Spanglers as they preach Christ to a forgotten people on Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas. This will probably be my last trip as co-pilot for Wings for a long time as we will be full time on deputation for a while. Abby and Elena looked great when I came back, and we were so glad to see them!

Elena meets Grandpa and Grandad for the first time!

Last week on Sunday, August 20, Elena was able to meet her Grandpa Burtt and Grandad Sanderlin for the first time all in one day! Here are some pictures of the day. We had a meeting in Rockford at Memorial Baptist Church that day where Abby's family was able to stop in. Then we drove home to the Quad Cities to visit with my family for a few days. We had a great time and always enjoy the Illinios steak on the grill and fresh sweet corn!! Nice goats Mom and Emily!!

Africa Update...Glastar Taildragger

Abby and I are currently on deputation raising support to help the Tom Needham family in Cameroon Africa. We have been praying for an airplane to use for planting churches in Africa. Well, there is a plane available, and now we need to raise the money to purchase the plane. The plane is the Glastar Taildragger that Tom Needham has been using since 2000 in Cameroon. He is going to build a newer and bigger plane called the Sportsman 2+2 from the same company. He would like to sell us the other plane, and so we would use them both in Cameroon. It has been said that a missionary with an airplane can do what three missionaries can do without an airplane. It is possible to do three times the work of the Lord with an airplane! Please consider what you may be able to do to help us purchase this plane. All Donations are tax deductible and may be made to
Wings as Eagles
3030 Witzel Ave.
Oshkosh, WI 54904
and designated for Sanderlin's Plane in Cameroon.

Africa update...Cameroon

We just wanted to thank the Lord for answered prayer in regards to our trip and long term plans for Africa. Recently the Lord has made it clear that we are to go to Cameroon to assist the Tom Needham family planting churches. He uses a variety of methods to reach people including medical evangelism, aviation, summer camp, training nationals, Scripture distribution, and much more. The picture here is of Tom with his plane out in the interior villages with the children. We are excited to have this clear focus of Cameroon and will take a survey to there next Spring. Please visit our website www.wyldewood.org/wae and click on my name for our latest newsletter.

Lots of Family Visitors

There have been many people who have come up to see us since Elena was born. Send us some pictures if you want them up on the site. Abby's mom and Mary along with Tina and Adam were up here the day after Elena was born. Abby's Mom and Mary stayed and helped Abby when I flew back to Texas to finish the missions trip...thank you! Jim came up with Emily (Juanita to Jim) and Jill. Jim is starting a new phase of life as he becomes music pastor at a church in Ohio. He will also be in charge of visitation and teaching music in the Christian school. We'll see you all soon!

Uncle Bill visits Elena

It was good to have Uncle Bill visit all the way from Texas! Actually, he was up in the area for a pathology meeting, but we were glad he decided to come up to Oshkosh for a visit. We went out to Kodiak Jack's for a big "Texas size" steak and then to church for the flight camp service on Wednesday evening. It was nice to see you. Come again soon when you're up this way :)

Grams, Anna, Emily, Tina, Tiz, and Mary visit Elena

It was good to see many of Elena's aunts (even Aunt Mary) and Grams, and cousin Emily a few weeks ago. They traveled from Michigan to Illinois for a family reunion before trekking up to Oshkosh. It was a whirlwind visit all packed into a Sunday afternoon and evening. It was great to see Grams all the way up here in Oshkosh! We saw Tina last weekend as well. She gets to see Elena more than the rest being only an hour away in Milwaukee. Thanks everyone for coming, and we'll see most of you in December.

Mom and Emily visit Elena

Grammy Sanderlin and Aunt Emily (aka Sweets, Tutz, Juanita) got to see a beautiful Sanderlin baby a few weeks ago. They came up to help Abby during the airshow week while Sam worked helping fuel the thousands of planes that flew in. We enjoyed the visit, and they enjoyed the special time bonding with Elena. We'll see you soon!

Rachel, Bethany, and Joanna visit Elena

It was good to see Abby's cousins Rachel and Bethany along with Elena's second cousin Joanna. We had a great time at the Wings hangar and at the Mexican restaurant. The girls went shopping and had some Burtt time. Come back and see us soon!

Elena and Texas

It has been an adventurous two weeks for the Oshkosh Sanderlin family. I left July 5 giving specific instructions to our unborn baby girl to wait to be born until I returned from the Wings as Eagles trip to Texas. The Wings as Eagles plane took off with four Wyldewood men including myself for Michigan to pick up four men from Sheridan Road Baptist Church. We left Michigan for Amarillo, Texas to erect the steel beams of Central Baptist Church, a growing soulwinning church. However, when I arrived, Abby called to inform me that the midwife found her ready to go into labor anytime. I flew commercially to get home, and arrived three days before our baby girl was born.

Elena Lynn was born at 3:31 am Monday, July 10. She weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz. and was 20 1/2 inches long. She has beautiful reddish blonde hair and is a very beautiful baby. Both Elena and Abby are doing well today.

I flew back for Texas the following Wednesday and was able to work for one day on the steel structure. The guys did a great job and were able to start on the roof and siding as well. On Thursday night I was able to spend a long time with Abby's Uncle Bill Gilmore and saw her Aunt Mary as well. The plane had a problem on Friday when we arrived at the airport, and after Terry Rushing located a new part and replaced it, we were able to leave on Saturday. I was able to co-pilot both ways and flew the whole leg from Saginaw, MI to Oshkosh, WI.

The Lord truly blessed us with safety in two round trips to Texas. We are grateful for the blessing of a healthy mom and baby and thank you all for your prayers and support for us as we continue our journey to ultimately get to Africa. We currently have four supporting churches and praying for eleven more before we leave.

Illinois Meetings

My beautiful (and great with child) wife and I just returned from meetings in the wonderful state of Illinois (for those of you from the South or who just don't know your states, you don't pronounce the "s" in Illinois). We had a great Saturday night and Sunday morning with Pastor Farmer and his family in Milledgeville at Community Baptist Church. We had a good time talking with his two boys who are praying about missionary aviation. Then Sunday night we went to my family's home church in Coal Valley, Believers Baptist Church. In both churches we presented the Wings as Eagles ministry and our burden for Africa. We also were able to preach in both churches. It was awesome to be home for a few days and spend time with family.
We stopped at Camp Joy Wednesday night and heard Ron Comfort preach. It was family camp that night so we met several people we knew including Mike Harris from Falls and Pastor Irmler from Springfield, IL. We also hit a deer on the way home...my first. Pray that everything works out in that situation. We were hoping to sell the car soon!
Abby is doing great! She is due July 19 and feeling it more every day. She has done wonderful with our schedule and with all the driving. She is an awesome wife!!
Dad, Mom, Chris, and Emily are doing great. I helped Chris move some of the barn debris and burn alot of it.
Jim was home from Greenville just for a few hours on Sunday. It was great to see him and Jill from Frankfort.
Jessica, Wyatt, and Amelia (Mia) are doing great. We had a fun time with them as usual! Wyatt cried when it was time for them to go.

Wings Trip to Alpena, MI

I recently had the opportunity to go on a Wings as Eagles trip with the college/career group from our home church in Oshkosh. Praise the Lord for the many things we were able to accomplish at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Alpena, Michigan. We flew there Wednesday morning, June 7, and left Saturday morning, June 10. We were able to do a number of projects on the church building and grounds as well as help the pastor reach out to his community through visitation. We had special meetings each night as Bro. Bart Case, director of church relations for Wings as Eagles, preached for each service. We thank the Lord for a safe trip!!

June Ministry

We don't have a lot going on in regards to deputation in June. Please pray that I'm able to schedule some last minute meetings. We had one cancel on the 4th. We'll be visiting churches nearby on service nights trying to meet Wisconsin pastors. The weekend of June 11 we will be in two Illinois churches. Sunday morning will be at Community Baptist Church in Milledgeville. Sunday night will be in Coal Valley at Believers Baptist Church. We have two supporting churches so far and several individuals who have given financially. Thank you to all who have been a help!
I have been staying busy working on Wings as Eagles projects including a DVD that we are trying to create for the ministry. Also, I have been preaching for children's church and nursing home when not on the road. Abby is finishing up her work soon and looking forward to seeing the baby!

First Deputation Meetings

This last week Abby and I were in three churches in the state of Michigan. On Sunday morning, May 21, we were in Napolean, MI where I taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church. Sunday night we presented our survey trip to Ann Arbor Baptist Church, Abby's home church. Wednesday night we presented the Wings ministry and our Survey trip to Faithway Baptist Church in Ypsilanti, MI, where Abby graduated from high school. Abby gave a testimony at both churches, and then I preached the message. We thank the Lord for safety in travel and a great time of fellowship.
Abby also had a baby shower with family and friends while we were in Ann Arbor. There were about 70 ladies. I spent the day with Abby's two little brothers, Philip and David, and we had a blast by ourselves!

First Wonderful Year of Marriage Complete!

We thank the Lord for his blessings throughout our first year of marriage. From ministry to preparing for a baby, the Lord has been good to us! (Ps. 107:1,8)

Abby and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary this last weekend in Chicago. We arrived Thursday afternoon and left Sunday evening after church. We bought a City Pass (CP) and found the following attractions to be A+

Museum of Science and Industry (CP)
Northerly Island Park (good-bye Meigs Field!)
The CTA (Chicago train/subway)
The Chicago Cubs victory at Wrigley Field on Friday pushing Greg Maddux to a 5-0 start (now if only the rest of the pitchers could figure out how to win!)
Rainforest Cafe
John Hancock Observatory (CP)
Cheesecake Factory
Shedd Aquarium (CP)
Adler Planetarium & Galileo's Cafe (CP)

It was a packed weekend and a lot faster paced than our honeymoon out west in Montana. We finished the trip by going to Marquette Manor Baptist Church with Lloyd and Bethany Estep. I taught the young adult/married Sunday School class for Pastor Ramler (Associate Pastor). It was a blessing meeting new people in the church and visiting friends and family.
