Sabga Hill

We have been in Cameroon for four months and this was our first trek up Sabga hill. It is one of the most distinguishable landmarks around this area. It took us about 45 minutes to get to the top from the Needhams. Elias stayed at home and we carried Elena quite a bit, but she also did a good job climbing some herself. The cows freely graze and probably live on top. We had lunch with the cows today when we got to the top. They ate their grass while we ate our sandwiches, Pringles, and Dr. Pepper. We saved these treats for our picnic!

Sabga hill on the right and the airstrip in the middle.

Our new house and the Bible study in Ndop is 10 miles away over the dark mountain ridge on the left. These are the cows we ate lunch with today.

Abby and I hope to take a hike one day to the top of the pencil thin waterfall on the right. Elena had a great time. She loves being outside and climbing up the mountain was great fun to her!

I am pointing at the bottom part of the airstrip that goes right to the Needhams place.

Ready for Bed

Elias wanted to check his email before bed last night to see if anyone had written him. "Hmm...looks like Grandma and Grandpa wrote me tonight." Elias is a little monkey climbing all over everything. He loves this new stool in the room and has figured out how to use it. We figured we'd put a picture of him up on this post since on the next post/outing he got left out...or left at home with the Needhams.

Out and about

Abby and I went out for a "picnic" about a 5 minute drive from our house...the view here is incredible!
Elena climbing a tree at the pottery.
Our house in Ndop from the front.
Genesis and I discussing all the bills in what will eventually be our library.

Needham's house

We are enjoying time at the Needhams house still...

An evening supper with everyone...

Elena and Abby baking...
One of Elena and Elias' favorite things to do at the Needhams...
"Uncle" Tom and Elias on the dirtbike
We did a lot of maintenance on the planes this week. I flew once with Tom and Tom flew quite a bit back in the bush.

Thanks for praying for our Equatorial Guinea trip!

I wanted to post some pictures that sort of shows our trip to E.G. I say “sort of” because there is a lot we cannot communicate through pictures. Wow, what a trip! It was exciting, long, hot, cramped, and very interesting. We are glad to be back in Cameroon. We are still praying for a long term solution to our visa needs.

The first picture is of the first bus from Bamenda, the capital of our province, to Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon.

The second picture of Elena and Mr. Ngi is at Shiloh House, where we like to rest in Yaoundé. She was terrified of “that man” when we first came to Cameroon 3 months ago, but now constantly talks about going to see “that little man” at the “Sucker’s” (should be Tucker’s) house.

The third picture is on the bus from Yaoundé to Equatorial Guinea. That trip took about 5 hours and then we just made the last bus from the border across EG to Bata where we spent the night.

The next two pictures are at a missionary guest house in Bata, EG. We all slept under nets to keep the mosquitoes and other bugs away. The kids enjoyed their bucket baths!

The sixth picture is our day walking along the ocean in Bata. We really enjoyed the rest and fellowship with a newly arrived American couple, missionaries to EG.

The seventh and eighth pictures are in the taxi we rented all to ourselves from the border of Cameroon back to the capital. This gave the kids a good opportunity to spread out and even nap. The driver only spoke French, so we arranged everything with him back at the border with a translator and then gave the phone to him when we got to Yaoundé so the Tuckers could give him directions in French to their place. We were stopped for about 45 minutes just outside Yaoundé as the President of the country returned from his visit to France.

The ninth and tenth pictures are us back in Yaoundé. We were so glad to be back in Cameroon on familiar turf. The Tuckers have a beautiful guest house for missionaries.

The next two pictures are on a very nice bus from Yaoundé, the political capital of Cameroon, to Douala, the commercial capital and largest city in Cameroon. We took a few days to visit the Hassmans.

The thirteenth and fourteenth pictures are at the coast in Limbe about an hour to so from Douala. We saw the spot where Alfred Saker arrived and founded the town of Victoria (now Limbe) in 1858. We also visited the church he planted across the street, still a functioning Baptist church.

The last few pictures are us at the zoo (primate sanctuary) there in Limbe. We had a great time there with the Hassmans and all the kids. There were so many monkeys and apes of many varieties there all hanging around and eating bananas…no joking!

We returned by airplane on Monday back to Sagba. Bro. Tom flew down to pick us up so we did not have to ride yet another bus!

We tried as much as possible to be missionaries along the way, but we were somewhat limited by language still. We passed out over 50 John/Romans in English, French, and Spanish to people we met along the way in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. People were very appreciative. We have a lot of stories that we hope to pass along…Thanks for praying for us!!!

Back in Cameroon

Thank you for praying for our trip to E.G. I'll post some pictures when we get back to Sabga. Right now we have another three month visa and praying for the Lord to open doors in the next few months for the residence permission.
We are in Douala, Cameroon with a BWM family right now. We hope to head back to Sabga on Tuesday.
