I wanted to post some pictures that sort of shows our trip to E.G. I say “sort of” because there is a lot we cannot communicate through pictures. Wow, what a trip! It was exciting, long, hot, cramped, and very interesting. We are glad to be back in Cameroon. We are still praying for a long term solution to our visa needs.
The first picture is of the first bus from Bamenda, the capital of our province, to Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon.
The second picture of Elena and Mr. Ngi is at Shiloh House, where we like to rest in Yaoundé. She was terrified of “that man” when we first came to Cameroon 3 months ago, but now constantly talks about going to see “that little man” at the “Sucker’s” (should be Tucker’s) house.
The third picture is on the bus from Yaoundé to Equatorial Guinea. That trip took about 5 hours and then we just made the last bus from the border across EG to Bata where we spent the night.
The next two pictures are at a missionary guest house in Bata, EG. We all slept under nets to keep the mosquitoes and other bugs away. The kids enjoyed their bucket baths!
The sixth picture is our day walking along the ocean in Bata. We really enjoyed the rest and fellowship with a newly arrived American couple, missionaries to EG.
The seventh and eighth pictures are in the taxi we rented all to ourselves from the border of Cameroon back to the capital. This gave the kids a good opportunity to spread out and even nap. The driver only spoke French, so we arranged everything with him back at the border with a translator and then gave the phone to him when we got to Yaoundé so the Tuckers could give him directions in French to their place. We were stopped for about 45 minutes just outside Yaoundé as the President of the country returned from his visit to France.
The ninth and tenth pictures are us back in Yaoundé. We were so glad to be back in Cameroon on familiar turf. The Tuckers have a beautiful guest house for missionaries.
The next two pictures are on a very nice bus from Yaoundé, the political capital of Cameroon, to Douala, the commercial capital and largest city in Cameroon. We took a few days to visit the Hassmans.
The thirteenth and fourteenth pictures are at the coast in Limbe about an hour to so from Douala. We saw the spot where Alfred Saker arrived and founded the town of Victoria (now Limbe) in 1858. We also visited the church he planted across the street, still a functioning Baptist church.
The last few pictures are us at the zoo (primate sanctuary) there in Limbe. We had a great time there with the Hassmans and all the kids. There were so many monkeys and apes of many varieties there all hanging around and eating bananas…no joking!
We returned by airplane on Monday back to Sagba. Bro. Tom flew down to pick us up so we did not have to ride yet another bus!
We tried as much as possible to be missionaries along the way, but we were somewhat limited by language still. We passed out over 50 John/Romans in English, French, and Spanish to people we met along the way in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. People were very appreciative. We have a lot of stories that we hope to pass along…Thanks for praying for us!!!
