First Solo in Cameroon!!!!

Bro. Needham and I went out to practice flying on a beautiful end of rainy season day today. I wanted to stay around Sabga and just practice on the airstrip here. I had never landed here but have been practicing at other fields. I did about 3 or 4 landings with brother Tom after which he decided to get out of the plane. He has been a great teacher these last few months.

I made three takeoffs and landings solo and am tailwheel current again. This was my first flight as pilot in command in Africa...a dream come true! Praise the Lord for safety and wisdom today. Please continue to pray for many more safe flights as training turns into ministry. I hope to get checked out in the bush strips of Akwaya in the coming weeks. There will be a medical/dental evangelism in the bush in January.

Short final...

Touchdown...

Taxi to hangar...

With my family...whenever Elias and Elena hear an airplane (especially Elias) they will scream with delight and run outside to see. Elias came running to greet me after the flight with, "Daddy, Daddy!"

October Update

It has been a while since we put up any pictures...here are a few.

We took a quick picnic with the Needhams, Jennie S., Don Wright, and John Pruden. Then they all came to see our house. We miss our two mechanic brothers...they were a real blessing to have around.

Ndop House Update

Can't wait to get in our house!!!In the parlor
View from the back "porch/walkway" looking at the washroom.
View from the driveway looking at the front entrance to the house. Our guava tree and container parking spot on the left.
The parlor from the front door. We finally unloaded much of our container!! The guys borrowed a van and in true Cameroonian fashion loaded the top about 5 feet off the roof. I was driving behind them with another load in the Needham's truck. As I rounded a corner I noticed a van stopped ahead. The guys were picking up debris from a smashed bookshelf! That has been the only casualty so far.
Bro. Eugene painting a room...he has been a huge help with the Ndop Bible study coming down once or twice a week to help witness and teach.

Some of these pictures a little outdated, but we'll post more newer ones as we get them. We stayed our first two nights in the house this last weekend!!! It is nice to be in our own place after 5 months. Our camera ran out of battery so there are no pictures, but we had a great time. I preached in a neighboring village and then we came back to Ndop for the Bible study. Pray for the next few week's lessons on baptism, and that many of the new believers will be baptized and join the new church. We hope to officially begin the church in November. Pray for an important meeting in Yaounde on Tuesday about our residence permits.

Family Update

Peek-a-boo from Elias!!
Bedtime!!
April and Elias on the Needham's four-wheeler
Elena and April
Elias and Elena both love their growing puppy, Chocolate. Elena originally decided her dog was Mambo, and she said Elias' dog was Chocolate. After Mambo died, she decided Chocolate was her dog. Chocolate loves them both! She is turning out to be a beautiful dog.
On our way up the mountain to Rosemary's house...about a 25 minute climb from the Needhams.
Within view the of settlement where Rosemary lives. We had a great time of fellowship with many friends.

Annual Inspection Update

Here are a few pictures of the annual inspections going on with Don Wright, John Pruden, Tom, Daniel, and myself (oh yeah, and Elena and Elias!).  There have been a number of significant improvements to the plane to update it and make it more functional.  This is the first year that 1 whole month has been allotted to the annual inspections since it is the first year where both planes have been flying all year in Cameroon.  Continue to pray for wisdom and safety in the hangar!  See www.gospelflight.blogspot.com for more pictures and detail.

Akwaya Trip

Abby and I had the ministry opportunity to be flown out to the bush to help our Cameroon missionary evangelist friend, Felix for a few days. The trip was primarily for Abby to teach the ladies. This was the first ladies meeting that they have had as such. Abby taught them various lessons from the Bible pertaining to the home and family. She also dealt with hygiene and disease prevention. Abby learned quite a bit about life in the bush from the various questions they asked her. Felix and I were able to spend a lot of time witnessing the gospel to various people in Meyerim and Akwaya town.

It takes 2 or 3 days to trek over these mountains from Sabga to Akwaya...or 25 minutes to fly!

Greeting our little friends in Akwaya.

New friends always happy to have their picture taken. When they know you have a camera, they say, "Snap we."

Abby teaching the ladies with an interpreter. The interpreter translated into Pidgin and also their local village language.

The ladies from several surrounding villages.

The church house at Meyerim is located at the end of the airstrip (notice the windsock on the right). Pastor Tom and Felix have been instrumental in starting this church as well as many doctors and nurses who have flown here for the medical evangelism clinics.

Walking through Meyerim on our way back to Akwaya town. Notice the groundnuts (peanuts) on the ground. We ate alot of oranges and groundnuts while back here.

Abby and I with Pastor Felix and two boys staying with him.

Abby with ladies from Akwaya. Abby is holding a baby girl that the mother asked her to name...Abby named her Anna!!

Felix and I with some Akwaya men. We escaped into their compound from the rain, and Felix preached to them.

In the chief's house with some of the children..."snap we!"

Abby and I enjoying some alone time by one of the numerous streams in Akwaya.

Tom landing to pick us up on Friday.

These girls are like little mommies already :) They really do a lot to help out in their families.

Saying goodbye to our new little friends.

Elena and Elias were happy to see us, but they had a great time with the Needhams!

Sabga Hill

We have been in Cameroon for four months and this was our first trek up Sabga hill. It is one of the most distinguishable landmarks around this area. It took us about 45 minutes to get to the top from the Needhams. Elias stayed at home and we carried Elena quite a bit, but she also did a good job climbing some herself. The cows freely graze and probably live on top. We had lunch with the cows today when we got to the top. They ate their grass while we ate our sandwiches, Pringles, and Dr. Pepper. We saved these treats for our picnic!

Sabga hill on the right and the airstrip in the middle.

Our new house and the Bible study in Ndop is 10 miles away over the dark mountain ridge on the left. These are the cows we ate lunch with today.

Abby and I hope to take a hike one day to the top of the pencil thin waterfall on the right. Elena had a great time. She loves being outside and climbing up the mountain was great fun to her!

I am pointing at the bottom part of the airstrip that goes right to the Needhams place.
