Cameroon Wedding

Today we had the privilege to attend a wedding of our friends, and I had the added bonus of preaching for them. Here are a few pictures of the day from my platform seat!

Chloe

Today was a study day for me and also a family night. I was home preparing for a message for a Saturday wedding and of course Easter on Sunday. So Abby and Chloe asked me to put up Chloe's swing in a new place. The first picture is of Chloe singing "cheese" for the camera. The other picture is of her laughing after she tried kicking me when I was too close to her swing! I'll let you guess which two aunts she takes after!

Pray for us tomorrow as we have a full day of evangelism planned around our town of Ndop. Many in Cameroon have a holiday on Good Friday, and we prepared a special tract for the day. We'll begin around 7 in the morning with a light breakfast of Abby's banana bread and good Cameroon coffee and tea, followed by a time of prayer and evangelism.

Have a great weekend and beginning serving our crucified and risen Savior and pray that many here will turn to Him!

Today's Flight

I flew a friend out to the Amanavil, Akwaya airstrip today to work on the bridge. We also took along with a boy to smooth out the strip.
After dropping them off, I flew over to my favorite Akwaya airfield in Manko. I hope I can take a video there sometime. I was able to preach to a catholic catachist and answer some questions. He wanted to know the meaning of my tail number N37JN so that is how the witnessing opportunity came as I preached from John 3:7 on what it means to be born again.
I flew by some rain and building clouds on the way home. Praise The Lord for a great day to fly!

March Update

We have had a great month for ministry and family as you can see in the pictures below!

The Needhams and their visitor came down to our town to eat with us at our only restaurant.  The manager is a friend and has been a friend ot Tom's for long time.  He wanted his picture with us!
A typical Cameroon scene...don't worry, moms, it was just a short ride down the street!
Witnessing in our village!
Elias and his legos!
Elena, mammy J, and our dinner for the night!
Big "Zeke" and his friends eating ice cream in Bamenda, the regional capital.
We were able to get lots of suspension work, brand new tires and even had the wheels re-painted...drives like a dream now!
Enjoying the early rains this year!
 Ready for church!
Happy Sunday! (and St. Patrick's Day)
On Tuesday,  I flew with a young man from our church to go out to Akwaya to check on our two friends there.  Bro. Tom had flown them to work on a bridge.
The Amanavil airstrip in Akwaya, in the middle of some beautiful mountains.
It is only March, and we are already racing thunderstorms!  What makes it worse is the haze hides the storms!
Elias and his other favorite toy...train tracks.  I think Elena helped him build this big track.
 Hiking up a mountain...
Visiting a Muslim friend's house on top of the mountain!

Return to Cameroon!

Praise the Lord for his grace in the last few months of our lives!  We are very excited about beginning our second term in Cameroon!  I am sorry for the month-long silence, but the internet here has been terrible, not to mention our lives have been busy and crazy.  We are almost back to normal although as I type Abby is unpacking some of our luggage from the return trip!

Just a few things...

I hope you enjoyed the last prayer letter.  If you don't get it, you can email me for it, and I would be glad to put you on the list.

Abby is finally better.  We are suspecting that the Ndop water supply was contaminated, though we think they have cleaned or treated the tanks of water.  Somehow Chloe and Abby got sick the most, while Elena and Elias had mild problems.  I had my major sickness in Sabga before coming to Ndop and have thus far been spared from this fever and stomach bug.  Lots of people in town have been getting this sickness.

Let me post some pictures from February including our journey after Scotland and update that way...

Arriving in Brussels from Edinburgh!
After leaving Edinburgh, we landed in Brussels, Belgium where we had a hotel reservation for the night. We had to get two separate rooms as they don't do things large in Europe!
Trying to find the departure gate for Cameroon via the Brussels airport the next morning!
Happy to have found our gate for Cameroon and especially to see lots of Cameroonians headed back too!  The lady I sat by had been a student in Ukraine and was finally returning home to Cameroon!
We landed and thanked the Lord for all our bags having arrived!  The heat was very noticable!  We took several taxis with the help of bro. Ezekiel and headed for a great night's rest at Shiloh House, a missionary retreat center in the nation's capital!  This is the statue that Elena was terrified of the first time we came to Cameroon in 2009!
Tom Needham flew down to Yaounde to pick us up, saving us a long 7 hour drive!  It was about an hour plus flight.
Using my new zoon lens to capture one of Tom's landings in Sabga as he brought in another visitor.

Tore Mitchell is from my sending church in Oshkosh, and he led the annual inspections of our planes this year.
Bro. Tore getting ready to leave for America...
Elena calls this girl her "tiny" Fulani friend.

We had a great time sleeping in the bungalo at the Needham's house for about a week and a half while we adjusted, worked on the planes, and finished cleaning our house 30 minutes away.
Bro. Godlove and his wife Maureen.  Pray for them as he is planting a church in a French-speaking part of Cameroon.  Pray that the government would reopen the airfield in the city where he ministers.  We would love to be able to fly down often and help him in his work.  I need to practise my French too!

Family day in Edinburgh

The Ben Shore family took the Sanderlin family to downtown Edinburgh today to view the sights that tourists from around the world come to see.  I had seen alot yesterday, but we really enjoyed everything today that Edinburgh has to offer.   No doubt we didn't see everything!
Lineup of the Shores and Sanderlins

 The gravesite of Horatius Bonar
Inside view of part of the National Museum of Scotland...a very impressive place.
The kids had fun making viking helmets
King James VI of Scotland also called King James I of England...he was born in the castle in the pictures below.
Exhibit for William Wallace who died in 1305.  Next to him on the right is Robert the Bruce the first of the famous kings of a united Scotland.

A monument to David Livingstone.
Graveyard and church where Horatius Bonar and other Bonars are buried.

It was a cold and cloudy but very fun day!  Thanks to Ben and Katie Shore to giving us the royal tour!

Scotland!

Wow, we arrived safely in Edinburgh, Scotland on Sunday morning at 7:00am. Thanks for praying!   Unlike arriving in Cameroon there was no one around when we came to collect our 13 pieces of luggage!  Thankfully, a customs official and some of our kids helped Abby and I push our 6 carts through security where Ben Shore was able to help us the rest of the way.  We only had a one hour delay on Saturday in Chicago as the Newark airport was closed due to high wind or something.  The trip to Scotland after that seemed to go by fast.  My family slept most of Sunday, but in the evening we were able to go to Free Baptist Church in Lonehead.  This church started by Ben and Katie Shore of Hudson, Wisconsin regularly prays for us.  So it was a joy to present our ministry through our DVD and then preach for them.  What a blessing to be in Scotland, the original land of the Sanderlins!  Here are a few pictures of before we left, of our arrival, and also where Ben and I went today...

Leaving Chicago on Saturday...thanks to all our families for all your help. We miss you!
Great to be in Scotland!!!
I couldn't come to Edinburgh without finding some old graves...some really important old graves.  Here is the grave of Thomas Chalmers who died in 1847.  He was the first leader of the Free Church of Scotland after they broke with the state church.  He was the teacher of Horatius and Andrew Bonar as well as Robert Murray McCheyne.
In the distance is the hill where King Arthur's seat is located.

The last church that Horatius Bonar pastored, then called Chalmers Memorial Chapel.
Ben Shore taking me to the Royal Mile, the Edinburgh Museum, and other places...
The memorial to the Scottish Covenanters who died as martyrs in the late 1600's.
 Buying a few good books!
The castle in Edinburgh!  King James was born here and is where the Scots kings and Queens were from.

With John Knox in the St. Giles Church where he preached.
A memorial to Thomas Chalmers in the St. Giles church
Riding home on a double decker bus!!  We plan to take the whole family out tomorrow before leaving for Brussels and then Cameroon.  Good night!
